Learning Resonance:

The Science of the

Heart*Brain in Education

New discoveries about the heart have revolutionized our understanding of the hearts’ role in learning and thinking. The heart was officially reclassified as a gland in 1983 and in 1991 was acknowledged to have an intelligence of its own—labeled the “heart brain.” It is essential that we take the heart-brain to heart in our teaching.

The current research has determined that the heart is also the most powerful generator of rhythmic information patterns in the human body. This research and applied programs demonstrate that when heart rhythms and other neurophysiologic rhythms are synchronized we attain a state of high coherence. Coherence enhances our ability to think, creates an emotional balance and improves overall productivity and peace of mind. This state of coherence can be learned and become a self-generated tool for success in daily life and especially in the classroom.

In this workshop you will:

learn about the “heart-brain” and how it functions in learning processes

find out about the hearts’ role as a gland and how this affects emotions

understand the concepts of resonance and coherence and how they affect performance and stress

gain knowledge of classroom activities that create a learning resonance for students and teachers

experience a demonstration of the interactive HeartMath computer program for developing coherence
